Two secluded holiday cottages with glorious Highland settings.
Within touching distance of the Ben Wyvis National Nature Reserve, our holiday cottages offer idyllic surroundings as standard. Located on the Castle Leod estate, a visit to our Tree Walk—featuring heritage trees, including a Spanish Chestnut planted in 1556, along with stunning views of the castle—is also part of the experience. The charming Victorian spa town of Strathpeffer is easily accessible from both cottages. With its bustling community, cafés, restaurants, museum, and year-round events, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a bite to eat after a day exploring the Highlands before retreating to your welcoming home-from-home. Both our cottages have woodburning stoves for colder evenings and are equipped to a high standard with everything you need for a comfortable Highland getaway.
Gunroom Cottage
Sitting within the grounds of Castle Leod, Gunroom Cottage is a listed Highland stone dwelling with a rich history of its own. Surrounded by woodland inhabited by deer, pine martens, wildcats, and rare birds, it offers a welcoming and tranquil retreat. This charming single-storey cottage features a king-size bedroom with an en-suite walk-in shower room, a fully equipped kitchen/diner, and a cosy living room with a wood-burning stove.
A stroll along the River Peffery and through the tree walk leads you to the romance of Castle Leod, set among verdant woodlands and breathtaking views. Whether you’re eager to explore the great outdoors or simply escape the bustle of daily life, this is the perfect Highland getaway.
Balnaird Farmhouse
Situated on the heights of Achterneed, Balnaird Farmhouse offers breathtaking panoramic views—Highland mountains to the west, Knock Farrel and the Cat’s Back to the south, and Cromarty Firth to the east.
Natural light streams into the sunroom year-round, while the living room provides a cosy retreat in the evenings. The fully equipped kitchen offers ample space for dining. Upstairs, a king room and a single room, both furnished to a high standard, ensure restful nights. The farmhouse also features its own garden and private parking for two cars.
A charming escape in any season, Balnaird Farmhouse offers plenty of space to relax and unwind, both indoors and out.
